Non-Commissionable Plans - Aetna 😯

A look at Aetna's MA/MAPD Non-Commissionable Plans as of September 1, 2025

As we head towards AEP a few Carriers have pulled commissions on new sales for a subset of their plans.

United Healthcare stopped paying on 219 plans impacting ~660,000 enrollees (see our analysis here).

(It’s expected that those same plans will be plans they exit in 2026)

And now, Aetna is removing commissions from several of their plans as of September 1 (there is no public information, but several agent/broker forums and blogs have the information).

Note: removal of commissions only applies to new sales going forward (not renewals on previously sold plans).

In order to determine how big of a move this is, I always like to look at data.

In particular, it’s helpful to analyze the current enrollment on the plans where commissions are being removed.

Number of Plans

The list includes 81 plans:

  • Plan = Contract + Plan ID combination

  • Only counting plans where there is current enrollment
